Bio

Heart for a Tin Man began in February 2008. The band started working on their first EP, "The Making of Empty" while still finalizing its roster. The CD was completed in fall of 2008, and the group subsequently underwent some lineup changes. After solidifying its roster, the (now) foursome began playing the Portland scene in December of 08. They have since played such venues as Kellys Olympian, The Tonic Lounge, Ash Street Saloon, Slabtown, as well as a few jaunts out of state. By summer of 2009, Heart for a Tin Man had further refined their sound by writing a dearth of new songs, as well ditching all of the old material. "The Prototype EP" was quickly recorded to showcase this new sound while the band continued to play shows and work on their first full-length album. This record is presently in production and will be complete in the fall of 2009. The band is very excited to share these new songs with the public in both recorded and live form.

"...I soon felt invigorated by "Tin Man's" dense, pounding rifts and their crafty, spellbinding interludes. Just when I thought I had them pegged, the band would shift into a new genre or stray from the accepted rock-style format. Their last song of the night, and perhaps my favorite, began simple enough and slowly built in tension and intensity, with Willis trying out some experimental guitar techniques and keyboardist Becky repeatedly playing a gradual, haunting piano." - Portland Nightlife Examiner 03/04/09

"Before a session with A Heart for a Tin Man, Oz's metal man would do well to buy a warranty on that new ticker. With radio-ready compositions elegantly tipping to the more somber end of the emotional spectrum, the quartet has enough well-crafted laments to cause the Tin Man's heart to break anew. Mournful but not without moments of affirmation laced with distorted interludes recalling early Smashing Pumpkins, the band has its sound down pat, with brains and a bit of courage tossed in for good measure." - Willamette Weekly 01/14/09
